Curly Hair Shampoo and Conditioners
Having curly hair can be both a blessing and a curse. Well-cared-for curls are bouncy and beautiful, but getting there can take a lot of effort.
Unlike straighter hair types, your curls require oodles of moisture – making them relatively difficult to maintain. Curls are determined by the size and shape of your hair follicles, which you inherit from your parents. That means genetics determines your curl pattern, curl type, and texture!
With so many variations, finding the best conditioner and shampoo for your curly hair can be challenging.
Here’s what you need to know before you buy the best shampoo and conditioner for curly hair!...
How To Pick The Best Shampoos And Conditioning Treatments For Curly Hair
Caring for your curls requires a well-planned hair care routine, including your shampoo, conditioning, and post-shower regimen. Curly hairs are prone to dryness, we recommend looking into a hydrating shampoo and a gentle cleansing conditioner.
But how do you pick the best shampoo for your textured hair?
Formula Is Key
Styling products, shampoos, and conditioners designed for someone with curly hair tend to be packed with scalp-nourishing ingredients to stimulate moisture retention. For the best possible results, you’ll want to look for a shampoo or similar product that contains the following:
● Shea butter-infused hair products
● Natural or essential oils (argan oil, coconut oil, peppermint oil, and olive oil are common)
● Keratin or aloe vera
● Animal proteins or plant extracts
There are also shampoo ingredients that you should avoid if you’re trying to get the most bang for your buck out of your natural hair. Stay away from any formula that contains sulfates, parabens, and too much alcohol – these can dry out your hair unnecessarily.

Curl Care FAQ
How do I use curl-friendly products?
The best way to use items on curly hair is sparingly. Even the best shampoos (e.g. sulfate-free, designed to lock in moisture) can dry your hair cuticles with daily use. We also recommend using a conditioning product on your curls every time you deep clean, which should be every three days or so.
If your shampoo still dries out your hair, you may want to consider switching brands, lessening frequency, or using hair oil to keep your curls looking happy and healthy.
Should I air dry or use a handheld dryer?
Here’s a general rule of thumb for curly locks: air drying is almost always the best option. But when your day is jam-packed and you need to be somewhere immediately, you don’t exactly have the time to wait for your mane to dry out completely.
If that’s the case, using a hairdryer might be your only option! We recommend purchasing a diffuser attachment to limit friction and heat, so your curls come out beautiful and frizz-free.
How do I prevent frizzy hair?
Frizz is caused by three things: dehydration, friction, and humidity. While there’s nothing you can do about humid weather, there are things that do wonders for keeping the frizz at bay – namely, deep conditioning, the right shampoo, keeping away from heat styling, and going for regular trims.
We also recommend ditching your regular terry cloth towel for a t-shirt when drying up after a relaxing bath. The smooth texture minimizes the friction and busts frizz before it even has a chance to develop.
